My arms are wrapped around you...and all of us really. These times have a way of draining the soul. There's so much due diligence necessary plus the overwhelming feelings of dread and terror and ineptitude...because there's so much going on and it can be hard to know what to do. Sending you love.

Oh, Kelly-Ann, I am so sorry to hear this. This is a massive blow. I am sending you love, fortitude, and courage through the process of regaining the rights to your two wonderful books. And I am really looking forward to reading your next from a new publisher. Don’t beat yourself up. I don’t think it’s something you could have realistically foreseen. Please let us know as you are able how this unfolds. Solidarity. Xoxo. Layla

Oh Darling I’m so sorry. Do you know Juliet Diaz? If not, I’d love to connect you (for reasons 🌝). She wrote Witchery and several other important books.

I think Juliet Diaz is amazing and I've followed her activism and work for a while now. She's epic. Thanks so much for being lovely. Bit of a tough time right now with all this. x

Ahh ok, I couldn'd find anything about it online. Don't wanna take up too much of her time but obviously it's always good to vent and exchange info... So sorry to know she's been messed with in any kind of similar way. :(

I’m seeing that she posted in the subscriber chat…I don’t want to speak out of turn about what’s happening for her. I do think that she’d be happy to hear from you tho, as she’s incredibly kind. She knows me, so please feel free to mention me if you reach out to her.

I don't know if you're a member of the Society of Authors, but might be worth having a chat with them about regaining rights etc. They offer a service for looking over book contracts (they prompted me to add a clause to mine about them not being allow to train AI using my book!!), and they're basically the closest thing we have to a union.

I’m so sorry this happened. It seems to be an issue I’ve noticed recently with a lot of spiritual writers (somebody mentioned Juliet Diaz. I heard another creator went through some similar issues). I recommend finding a copyright lawyer and see how you can move places or even go indie. Please don’t let this get you down. Your insights are very valuable ❤️

I saw you talk about this in March and I’m so sorry that you have to have your books tied up in all this. And I get it, you don’t want more money going to that. I don’t think I can stop recommending Witch in Darkness yet. In the US everything in our lives is tied up in blood. Our groceries, clothes, everything we need to survive. All we can do here is harm reduction sometimes, and sometimes we have to decide that something is so important for our survival (so we can fight other battles) that it doesn’t serve harm reduction to deny our need for the tools that can keep us alive and fighting even when it means a few more pennies go to that harm. Witch In Darkness falls into that category for me. I have this book in audio, ebook and hard copy. This is because I must have it accessible at all times. Sometimes I just need to read a selection and all I have is my phone to see the ebook. Sometimes I need to hear it in your voice because your voice has become a trigger for calming and self-reflection. Sometimes I need the hard copy so I can read an excerpt to my friend who is treading very close to the edge of not surviving at all. (I bought her a copy already but her trauma is so bad right now that she struggles to even read). When someone tells me their mental health is suffering from the onslaught of US politics and their feelings of powerlessness, I tell them to get this book. Many have, and have said it’s given them something to hold on to. When there is another option, we’ll buy there. But I haven’t been able to find anything else that can fill the void that would be left if we abandoned that book.
